Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Sr. Power Electronics Design Engineer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Integrated Product Team Lead – Electrical Power Systems, the Sr. Power Electronics Design Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative spacecraft solutions for internal and external customers. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Apply innovative design techniques to switched mode power conversion for isolated and non-isolated topologies from Bus voltages of 66V to regulated voltages as low as 0.8V.
- Work in a fast-paced team environment on a variety of R&D, proof of concept, and production programs.
- Power electronics design for switched mode conversion using digital and analog control techniques.
- Design to meet EMI/EMC qualification.
- Magnetics design, including drawings for manufacture.
- Perform worst-case analysis of all circuit implementations showing stability and functional performance over time and environments.
- Document designs and provide requirements compliance.
- Provide laboratory verification and debugging of printed circuit boards with power converters for electrical controls units and flight hardware, including system level integration.
- BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering and 8 or more years switched mode power electronics design experience.
- Working knowledge in the following areas: solar array to battery management systems, bus voltage to lower regulated working voltages, system/board level grounding/shielding and EMC design techniques, motor controller design a plus.
- Well versed in sampling theory and ADC/DAC implementation for feedback and control a plus.
- Circuit and system level modeling and analysis experience using spice, MATLAB, Simulink, or other comparable tools.
- Schematic capture and board layout experience for power supplies, Altium Designer preferred.
- Radiation hardened and high reliability electronics design experience.
- Experience with EMI/EMC qualification testing per military and commercial standards and (e.g. MIL-STD-461, CRISPR 22, RTCA/DO-160, etc.).
- Experience in design for harsh environments as embodied in common commercial and military standards (e.g. RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810, etc.)
- Knowledge of device characteristics relevant to power electronics, such as: MOSFET, GaN, SiC, IGBT, BJT, JFET, diodes, various capacitor families, FPGAs, etc.
Additional Differentiators
- Understand vehicle-level systems engineering including functionality trade-offs, grounding, and EMC strategies.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD and PLM software.
- Familiarity with IPC, NASA requirements and acceptance.
- Understands and deals well with rapid development cycles, ambiguity, and unexpected changes in direction.
- Working knowledge of MS Office.
- BJT, JFET, diodes, various capacitor families, FPGAs, etc.
