DoD Clearance: SecretThe Tactical Communications & Applications Solutions (TCAS) Software Department in the C4I&A Engineering directorate of Collins Aerospace develops and integrates communication protocols (waveforms) for domestic and international military communication systems, as well as mission autonomy and battle management solutions. These systems are deployed and used worldwide to help U.S. and coalition warfighters successfully complete their missions. We are the market leader for military airborne and ground radios, and we’re developing strategic next-generation and open system architecture products for many military platforms.
We are seeking an innovative and challenge-driven Software Engineering Manager with the leadership and technical skills to manage the engineering development and project execution of critical and strategic communications programs that will enable our warfighters to have tactical advantages in theater. This involves oversight of software engineering activities which design, develop, enhance, integrate, test, and maintain embedded waveform software applications to create real-world radio solutions for the warfighter.
This position requires onsite presence in Cedar Rapids, IA.
What You Will Do
- Demonstrate predictable program execution, continuous improvement, and engagement with a talented and diverse group of software engineers
- Work directly with and manage daily activities of software engineers, project engineers and supporting organizations in a secure lab environment to develop, integrate, and test embedded software in an Agile development environment for software-defined radio architectures
- Develop and nurture internal and external networks, ensuring alignment and transparency with stakeholders, forging relationships with peers across C4IA Engineering and Value Stream Leadership, as well as government customers, industry partners, and third-party vendors
- Responsible for recruiting/hiring, resource allocation, and overall group management of software engineers, including actively addressing employee performance and career development actions
- Demonstrate sound decision-making skills, communication skills, networking skills, and the ability to accurately forecast project work and costs
- Lead and interact with the engineering team using strong interpersonal, mentoring, and negotiating skills, and be responsible for managing project risks/issues and elevating to upper management when appropriate
- Ensure compliance to Collins development processes and standard work requirements
- Oversee and participate in the development of engineering bids and proposals
- Ability to travel up to 10% based on business need
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
- Led cross-functional technical teams of software, systems, and test engineers in projects involving FPGA and Crypto Module integration, demonstrating ability to mentor and manage multidisciplinary efforts from concept through delivery.
- 3-4 + years of experience serving as a Software Lead, Systems Lead, or Project Engineer, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding project deadlines, adhering to budget constraints, and maintaining quality compliance standards.
- Hands-on experience in embedded software development using C++, including debugging, integration, and deployment on embedded platforms.
- Direct involvement in Agile methodologies, serving as a Product Owner, Scrum Master, or Release Train Engineer, with demonstrated success in managing Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and cross-team coordination.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders across all organizational levels.
