The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Department of Family & Community Medicine, seeks qualified and dynamic Family Medicine Physicians interested in joining its faculty and passionate about service, education, scholarship, and leadership. Candidates hired for this position will provide patient care in outpatient and potentially inpatient settings and support departmental education and scholarship efforts. Physicians interested in securing funds for research projects are also encouraged to apply. While we seek faculty who are committed to advancing primary care, we encourage Family Medicine educators to apply with expertise in areas such as addiction medicine, sports medicine, reproductive justice, gender-affirming care, and care for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
This position will include primary care work in a clinical setting with a dedicated patient panel at one of our Family Medicine clinics, utilizing the Patient-Centered Medical Home model. The clinician will provide care to pediatrics, adults, as well as dedicated time to adolescents and duties supervising Family Medicine students in the ambulatory setting. In this position, new faculty may provide service and supervise residents on one or two teaching services as part of their job duties including on the Maternal Child Health service (a Family Medicine dyadic obstetric and neonatal service); the Family Medicine Inpatient Service, which provides care to adult and pediatric (hospitalized patients); the Newborn Nursery; and the Intermediate Care Nursery. The educational duties will include teaching UNM medical students, physician assistant students, and family medicine residents and fellows.
The Family Medicine faculty will join a renowned and well-established academic Family Medicine department offering opportunities in teaching and curricular development, clinical quality improvement innovations, community-engaged collaborative research, and other scholarly activities. The University of New Mexico is New Mexico’s flagship R1 research-intensive institution. It is recognized for its innovative research and has secured over $165 million in extramural research funding. The UNM Health Science Center has an established Clinical & Translational Science Center and a Comprehensive Cancer Center that provide extensive opportunities and resources to support collaborative research in various interest areas.
