Position Overview
The Department of Speech and Hearing Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, with expertise in the applicability of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and tools to speech-language pathology or audiology. We are searching broadly for individuals who do empirical research on the development or application of AI tools and techniques that have relevance for speech, language, or hearing sciences and disorders, and whose research program focuses on future developments, best practices and applications of AI within our disciplines. The ideal candidate will also help to prepare future generations of researchers and clinicians for careers in which AI will be heavily featured, expanding the expertise and scope of our fields.
Performance Objectives
- Develop and maintain active research program.
- Teach courses in basic speech-language or hearing sciences, as well as courses in more clinically applied areas associated with their area of expertise.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
- Integrate exposure to, and experience with, AI tools in our undergraduate, professional, and PhD programs.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Applicants must have a PhD in Speech and Hearing Science, Communicative Disorders, AI, Computer Science, or a related field. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or an emerging publication record, and evidence of potential for extramural funding (e.g., National Institutes of Health, NSF). Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students representing varied perspectives and academic backgrounds is essential.
Desired: Clinical certification and/or eligibility for licensure in Ohio as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist is desirable but not required. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building an intellectual community in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below).
