We are seeking an Engineer 1 - Physical at our corporate office in Albany, NY.
Position Summary:
The position assumes the responsibilities of a Substation Physical engineer performing design of LV, HV, EHV electrical power systems with emphasis on design of electrical power substations. The Engineer 1 will be responsible for collaborating with a team of engineers and drafters to support substation engineering design projects, including detailed physical design for substation projects and providing engineering design and construction support for assigned projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Practical knowledge and understanding of Engineering/Procurement/Construction types of projects.
- Creating substation general arrangements, elevations, and assembly drawings/details in accordance with AHV and/or client standards.
- Creating grounding, conduit, lightning protection, and lighting systems drawings/details in accordance with AHV and/or client standards.
- Perform grounding, lightning protection and lighting systems calculations in accordance with all applicable industry and internal standards and specifications.
- Assure that all engineering documents and records are properly maintained.
- Coordination/guidance of designers/drafters and detailed review/approval of electrical drawings.
- Participate in development of less experienced engineers and designers
- Provide engineering specifications and other information required by purchasing to procure equipment.
- Selecting and ordering substation materials and/or equipment.
- Review vendor submittals.
Supervision:
- N/A
Professional Registration:
- Engineer in Training Certification preferable, but not required.
Educational Requirements:
- Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering - required
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering - preferred
- Knowledge of NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards.
Experience & Training Requirements:
- Highly motivated and able to execute tasks provided adequate supervision.
- Good written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
- Skilled in engineering theories and principles.
- Skilled in practice of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Skilled in problem solving in time-sensitive situations
Computer Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in the following software programs:
- Microsoft Word – basic
- Microsoft Excel – basic
- Microsoft Outlook – basic
- AutoCAD (2015 or later) – advanced
- CDEGS/SESTech - preferred
Travel Requirements:
- Engineer 1 travel level is typically 10%.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift / move equipment up to 15 lbs.
