The Clinical Pharmacist – 7on/7off Nights supports inpatient pharmacy services at Marymount Hospital, a community-focused hospital with a close-knit culture and a unique patient population that includes a large behavioral health and mental health community. Working within a team of approximately 36 caregivers, this role provides both operational and clinical pharmacy services across Med/Surg and other inpatient areas. Responsibilities include medication order verification, operational dispensing from the main pharmacy, decentralized clinical pharmacy services on nursing units, and cross-coverage of the Emergency Department and ICU following training. The pharmacist actively participates in patient education initiatives, residency program support, research opportunities, codes, and stroke alerts while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered medication management. This position offers strong exposure to psychiatric pharmacotherapy and a dynamic environment with opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.
A caregiver in this role will work 8:00pm to 6:45am on 7-night shifts and then have 7 days off. The rotation starts on Monday Night and ends on Sunday night and will include a weekend rotation built in.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provides safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
- Independently assumes responsibility for the full scope of pharmacy operations typically distributed across multiple pharmacists, technicians, and specialized roles during daytime hours, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication use.
- Performs all distributive, technical, and operational pharmacy functions without onsite support, including medication verification and dispensing, operation and troubleshooting of automated medication systems (e.g., carousel), and preparation of sterile compounded medications.
- Delivers clinical and operational pharmacy support, with bedside response as required, for high acuity events such as cardiopulmonary arrest and stroke alerts, serving as the sole onsite pharmacist.
- Provides immediate assessment, troubleshooting, and resolution of system downtime, automation failures, and facilities disruptions, and escalates issues appropriately to on call pharmacy leadership, IT, facilities, and other support services.
- Verifies medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
- Documents services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
- Utilizes available technology proficiently and to full extent, in their area of practice.
- Ensures all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
- Maintains professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.
- Maintains professional working relationships with all caregivers.
- Promotes a positive work environment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improve services and the department.
- Educates and trains students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
- Provides cost-effective care.
- Accountable for drug use policy adherence.
- Utilizes time and resources effectively.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredite
