Position Description 

This individual serves as the Assistant Director of Orchestras, fulfilling all Assistant Director duties for Lower, Middle, and Upper School Orchestra classes. This position also provides support for all concerts, organizes some extracurricular events (i.e. Strings Club), and teaches sectional instruction and provides one on one instruction as needed.

 

Responsibilities and Duties


Co-teach Grade 4 Exploratory Music Class, Grade 5 Orchestra, Middle School Intermediate Orchestra, and Upper School Orchestra.
Will teach up to two orchestra classes.
Collaborate with the Director of Orchestras to develop and implement the curriculum, including overseeing repertoire selection.
Create orchestra course documentation as determined by the divisional expectations, working to vertically align curriculum.
Conduct and organize orchestra student participation at extracurricular events as directed by the Director of Performing Arts. These may include chapel performances as well as special Admissions or Advancement events.
Provide sectional instruction as appropriate for all LS, MS, and US Orchestras.
Assist with Lower School instrument pickup and supervision of Lower School students during class transitions.
Assist with instrument tuning at the start of each class.
Assist with the restoration and organization of Orchestra room and storage areas.
Serve as an advisor.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Performing Arts.


 
Qualifications 


A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred 
At least three years teaching in an independent school or equivalent experience 



A willingness to collaborate

Demonstrated leadership skills
Clear written and oral communication skill
 


Physical Demands:  Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
