The anticipated salary range for this role is between $176,000.00 and $231,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Summarize risk modeling and reporting across the organization to capture thresholds, at-risk levels and exposure limits by risk type, product and business. Summarize and report on key measures, such as asset quality across a number of gradations of risk, provisioning levels and capital charges against projected and budgeted targets. Provide management an assessment of risk and business insights.
Role Objectives: Delivery
Ensure that risk modeling and reporting across the organization can be captured, including thresholds, at-risk levels, and exposure limits by risk type, product and business. Create, measure and monitor potential losses across different types of risks (credit, market, liquidity, operational) and sub-components of those risks (concentration, company / industry / sovereign default probabilities, yield, convexity, duration, FX, etc.) and by product, business and entity. Manage the reporting of key measures such as asset quality across a number of gradations of risk, provisioning levels and capital charges against projected and budgeted targets. Report on control breaches and threshold violations against risk appetite. Work with the board, management and business units to establish risk appetite / thresholds, optimize risk / return, remediate and avoid exceptions, and identify root causes of non-compliance and variances to expected performance. Conduct analysis to provide management and assessment of risk and business insights.
Role Objectives: Interpersonal
Facilitate close unit partnerships with risk functions monitoring treasury, trading and client-facing functions to better understand how they are managing risks, developing models and monitoring outcomes. Ensure strong personal and team collaborations with consulting firms, academic institutions and other financial institutions to better understand emerging issues. Improve data gathering and modeling through strong partnerships with units such as IT. Work closely with industry specialists, country risk managers, credit review / analysis staff and relationship managers to evaluate the efficacy of policies and procedures and models. Participate in long- and short-term planning, new product development, ALM and risk management meetings. Network within the industry through meetings, events and involvement with trade organizations to better understand emerging risk trends. Work closely with auditors and regulators to better understand their concerns and reduce potential compliance issues.

Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the organization, its underlying businesses and associated risk to prepare meaningful reporting and analysis. Apply a strong background in financial markets and economics to set monitoring and reporting priorities. Demonstrate a deep expertise in risk modeling to take into account various types of risk, correlation between risks and idiosyncratic risk.
