Job Overview:
Chronic wounds cause an economic burden to the patient and the healthcare system. It is important to treat wounds and their underlying causes to avoid costly hospitalizations, amputations, and pre-mature death. The Wound Care Center treats patients with diagnosis such as pressure injuries, burns, lacerations, venous and arterial disease, post-operative wound dehiscence, diabetic foot ulcers and ostomy education. Many patients have limited mobility and require multiple staff members to transfer, turn, and ambulate.
WCC Job duties:
- Wound Vac application/changes
- Compression wrap application/changes
- Case management for providers
- Apply total contact casts
- Wound assessments including measurement, description, drainage, undermining, tunneling
- Assist provider in skin substitute applications
- Provide education to patients and family members
- Order wound dressing supplies
- Assist in wound debridement and hemostasis
- Recognize signs and symptoms of infection
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally accredited school of professional nursing Required
- Minimum of one year relevant experience of professional nursing experience Required
- Minimum of five years' relevant experience nursing experience Required
License/Certifications:
- BSN Certification. Preferred
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in State of Indiana. Required
- Newly hired RNs on or after October 1, 2014 with five (5) years or less nursing experience are required to receive their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire. Required
- Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire. Required
