Job Description

Western Digital is seeking a New College Graduate to join the Quality Assurance Engineering team in San Jose, CA. The candidate will be responsible for proactively enhancing the robustness and efficiency of our wafer process and equipment systems, procedures, training packages, and more through data analysis, application development, and implementation of AI and Machine Learning tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Identifying and fixing weak links and bottlenecks in the production line, covering both process and equipment.
  • Work on the fab floor of Fremont and Great Oaks fabs frequently with manufacturing and engineering teams to perform audits and fix issues.
  • Promote Quality Culture among wafer process and equipment engineering teams.
  • Facilitate Process Familiar Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs).
  • Collaborate with FA and Yield Engineering teams to assure wafer outgoing quality.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in computer science/engineering, as well exposure to manufacturing processes through academic environments or professional experience. The candidate’s skillset should also include a problem-solving mindset, good project management skills, strong verbal and written communication, and the ability to thrive in a team environment. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with graduation date between May-December 2024. Expected start date for this role in the first quarter of calendar year 2025. 
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, web app development, and chatbot integration, including RAG applications and NLP techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, pandas), SQL, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone), and large language models (LLMs).
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and deploying web applications for manufacturing process improvements.

SKILLS

  • Familiar with quality assurance standards, Statistical Process Control (SPC), 8D Problem Solving, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and semiconductor-wafer manufacturing processes to drive defect reduction and process control improvement
  • Strong expertise in applying quality management methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, root cause analysis (RCA), and continuous improvement practices to address complex quality issues and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills for cross-functional collaboration.
