Senior Network Engineer

Extreme Reach’s Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the forward thinking business's network infrastructure. They ensure the reliability, security, and performance of the network and are involved in the development and implementation of long-term strategies. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in networking technologies, and strong technical and communication skills.

The Senior Network Engineer is also responsible for triaging trouble and support requests, as well as creating and maintaining knowledge base articles, technical references, and best practices and procedures. While this role is mostly internal facing, there may also be direct client communication and support. To provide the best support for our clients, occasional after-hours network support to accommodate an on-call rotation is required.

The scope of the position is focused on networks in North America, but will also support network operations across Extreme Reach’s world-wide operations.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure the network infrastructure is highly available, secure, and optimized for performance
• Design, configure, implement, and maintain Extreme Reach’s network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks
• Monitor network performance, capacity utilization, and resolve complex network problems
• Work with ISP’s, AWS and other vendors to resolve network problems
• Document network design, configurations, and procedures
• Propose and implement technology enhancements that will improve performance, reliability, and scalability of the network
• Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of network solutions with other systems and environments
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast paced environment

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 7+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior role
• Extensive knowledge of networking technologies, including TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), switch configurations, and firewalls
• Strong experience with cloud networking, including AWS and/or Azure
• Familiarity with implementing and maintaining Direct Connect circuits to major cloud providers
• CCNP or equivalent certification required
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience with network security best practices
• Familiarity with fiber and copper cabling
• Understanding of NAC solutions, implementation, and best practices
• Maintains technical expertise by learning about emerging tools and technologies
• Basic familiarity with PowerShell, Python, BASH, and/or other scripting languages
• Experienced knowledge of Cisco, Fortinet, SonicWall, and Meraki product offerings, configuration, and related security services
