Position Summary
The Team Lead, Machining TFR (Taco Fall River) coordinates employees who work in the machine shop, schedules and assigns work as required. They train CNC programmers and operators and oversee creation of computer numerical control (CNC) programs for manufacturing components, cutter selection, setup documentation, tooling design and drafting, CNC tooling programs, verification, and shop aid sketches. The Team Lead, Machining is responsible for troubleshooting the work of all employees within the machine shop that are responsible for the manufacturing of mid- to high-complexity components. They are subject matter experts on complex machining and also provide backup for the supervisor on second shift as needed.

- Timely/successful training and evaluation of machine shop employees
- Accurately apply trade knowledge in the development and machining of manufacturing jigs and fixtures in the completion of product
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensure that programmers are properly utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to select the appropriate cutting tools and speeds/feeds for a variety of material types in order to create CNC programs and instructions used to run a CNC machine
- Troubleshoots complex machining and provides guidance to employees in the processing of those machining tasks
- Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data to determine the appropriate machine tool, work holding and cutter selection, machine speeds, and feed rates
- Observe machine trial runs or conduct computer simulations to ensure that programs and machinery will function properly and produce items that meet specifications
- Oversee writing, storing, and modifying of original and/or existing CNC programs to enhance efficiency. Correct and guide programmers to resolve any CNC programming issues.
- Coordinate with design engineering on best practices and designs for machinability
- Provide progress, status, and troubleshooting reports to management
- Approves recommended tooling purchases to determine the best consumables for particular processes and to ensure that operational budgets are met and maintained
- Maintains work area in a neat and organized manner to 5S standards
- Provide advanced training to machine shop employees and programmers in the operation of CNC equipment and set up
- Provides feedback to management on an individual’s progress, abilities and aptitude
- Serves as the subject matter expert within the machining department, resolving complex issues
- Designs and fabricates fixtures as required and participates in high level project reviews
- Coordinates all shipping activities on second shift
- Coordinates all second shift manufacturing activities in absence of supervisor
- Participates in the interview processes to evaluate technical abilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
