The Teacher will provide academic and social-emotional support to at-risk youth, ages 6-14. The Teacher will collaborate with school personnel, family members, and other service providers to meet the educational and developmental needs of the students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Give continuous attention to the total physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of children in assigned class.
- Remains alert to physical safety and well-being of children
- Gives consistent care through on-going interactions such as talking, comforting, and playing
- Arranges room and materials to make an interesting and stimulating environment
- Observe children for signs of a growing interest in particular objects, people, play, and activities.
- Exercises ingenuity in providing children with experiences they need for development.
- Keep written reports of children’s progress.
- Exchange information with parents and staff guided by ethical principles in what information is shared
- Organize classroom too meet children's needs, interests and capacities
- Cooperate with the lead teacher in the preparation of course outlines, program activities, demonstrations, and field trips.
- Define responsibilities, learn techniques, and evaluate room activities.
- Perform daily inspections of children
- Check daily attendance of children in room
- Prepare and keep updated class schedule
- Perform general housekeeping tasks in the classroom
- Maintain necessary pupil records including attendance, health, and progress.
- Ensure all policies and procedures related to the project, including confidentiality and child protection guidelines, are adhered to.
- Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation; and
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Certifications/Licensures:
- Child Development Associate Certification must be acquired within 1 year of employment. Preference will be given to those candidates who are currently certified.
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification must be acquired within 90 days of employment. Preference will be given to those candidates who are currently certified.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required.
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited college with an Associates degree in child development or a related field is preferred;
- High School Diploma and experience as a substitute or nursery school teacher or a mi
