About the role

Amazon is looking for a results-oriented individual to join the AWS Energy Team. In this role, you will support AWS’s infrastructure expansion by developing energy projects with electric utilities and energy companies across AWS regions. This role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to grow AWS’s diverse, and low-cost energy supply. The candidate must be able to manage multiple large scale power infrastructure projects across different geographies and evaluate opportunities to reduce energy capital and operating expense. The candidate will identify, develop and execute energy projects, programs, and initiatives to achieve these outcomes. The candidate will manage utility interactions, project manage EPC and Owner's Engineering firms delivering power substations and work with engineering, real estate and planning teams to evaluate data center sites and develop the electric infrastructure to serve those sites. The candidate will work as part of an integrated team to implement energy program requirements and deliver tangible reliability and cost saving results.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background and a proven track record of developing and then delivering on innovative energy projects. The candidate will have experience working with regulated electric utilities on tariffs and/or developing medium and high voltage power infrastructure. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, product, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.


Key job responsibilities
· Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
· Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs.
· Work with regulated utilities to negotiate new tariffs, supply contract structure and other cost savings incentives to reduce energy costs for the business.
· Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
· Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
· Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

Basic Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field
- 5+ years of experience working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role
- 1+ years of experience performing financial models and analysis on rates and energy cost
- 1+ years of experience negotiation interconnection agreements and related contracts with utilities and contractors
- 1+ years of experience managing multiple million dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent financial/business/commercial experience
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project/program level education and certification
• The ability to manage multiple, simultaneous, large scale projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
• Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other 34.5kV or greater energy infrastructure
• Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators
• Experience successfully negotiating new tariff rates, power purchase agreements and/or energy infrastructure contracts in regulatory regimes
• Experience with data center reliabilit
