Position Overview

This position assists in the development, implementation, and administration of the Bridge Management Systems (BMS) and the formulation of bridge maintenance/management policies. The incumbent assists in the publication of the Structural Services Manual, Illinois Supplement to the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHTO) Manual for Bridge Element Inspection (MBEI) and related documents and policies and provides technical support and training for the Illinois Structures Information System (ISIS), Structural Information Management System (SIMS) and SIMSCounty.

Essential Functions

• Oversees the Illinois Bridge Inspection Program to ensure compliance with the FHWA 23 Metrics.
• Generates and distributes reports of bridge inspections due and bridge inspection delinquencies to ensure all bridges are inspected within established frequency criteria.
• Generates reports to provide support for the Bureau of Bridges and Structures, other bureaus, district offices, the FHWA, LPAs, other entities, consultants, and the news media.
• Assists with the review and updating of the Structural Services Manual, Structure Information and Procedure Manual, Bridge Preservation Guide, and Supplement to the AASHTO MBEI.
• Works with the OPP to ensure the BMS outputs and maintenance/preservation/repair strategies are maximized.
• Keeps abreast with NBIS and technological developments relating to bridge inspection and bridge management.
• Provides training to district personnel in the use and operation of bridge management software and systems.
• Keeps abreast of current research and publications regarding bridge management and makes recommendations to implement new ideas in IDOT’s BMS.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
• Four years of experience in civil engineering.
