Norton Rose Fulbright is hiring an IP Disputes Paralegal to join the Intellectual Property team. The ideal candidate will be efficient, multitask-oriented, independent, and a team player. The position is responsible for support lawyers engaged in IP disputes and litigation, and experience with arbitration and trial preparation/attendance is required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand litigation motion practice, discovery, trial, and appellate procedures and ability to administratively manage all phases of an IP litigation case
  • Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods and procedures relating to infringement of IP rights
  • Ability to read and understand technical papers including those to include patents, copyrights, and trademark secrets
  • Assist with trial preparation, by drafting and organizing required documents and files
  • Efficiently manage document files including correspondence, court papers, case records, and materials produced in the discovery process
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines
  • E-filing motions and other pleadings, including after-hours filings
  • Thorough understanding of court rules and filing requirements
  • Experience gathering patent documents from the USPTO databases and researching technical references
  • Online substantive research, filing, and other administrative duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant patent paralegal experience
  • In lieu of bachelor’s degree, 9 years of relevant patent paralegal experience
  • Understanding of litigation procedures and patent-related procedures, including IPRs and PGRs
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office post-grant filing procedure
  • Experience managing large volume portfolios
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact well with people at all levels of the organization and some external parties
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong judgement, initiative, integrity and be a dependable, highly motivated, team player
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Exercises sound judgement at all times and responds calmly and effectively in stressful situations
  • Flexibility to operate independently and in a team atmosphere with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Ability to work overtime when required
