JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State Scranton Athletics, a member of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), is accepting applications for a Part-Time Head Men's & Women's Track & Field Coach. This position provides leadership and oversight for the Track & Field program at Penn State Scranton.
The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the track & field program, including practice planning, competition coaching, student-athlete development, and recruitment of academically qualified student-athletes. The position primarily operates during the competitive season, with off-season responsibilities related to recruiting and program development. The Head Coach will have the opportunity to work with and supervise a Part-Time Assistant Coach.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Coaching
Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitions.
Provide game day coaching and in-game decision-making.
Oversee player development, including athletic, academic, and personal growth.
Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and team-focused culture.
Provide vision and leadership aligned with Penn State’s values and athletics mission.
Recruitment & Retention
Recruit, evaluate, and retain academically qualified and talented student-athletes.
Maintain consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and families.
Ensure recruiting efforts comply with PSUAC, USCAA, and NCAA Division III rules.
Program Operations
Manage all day-to-day program operations under the direction of the Athletic Director.
Coordinate practice schedules and team activities.
Supervise team events and travel as assigned.
Provide feedback and recommendations to the Director of Athletics for weekly, seasonal, conference, and national awards.
Work collaboratively with athletics staff, administrators, and campus partners.
Student-Athlete Experience & Community Engagement
Encourage and support academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
