SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. The Manager I, Engineering - Parts role is a pivotal position within SPX Cooling. The incumbent oversees the support for Cooling Products, including Factory Assembled Products (FAP) and Field Erected Products (FEP) for Marley, Recold, and SGS brands. The primary role in this position involves forecasting upcoming Parts product orders and efficiently planning project engineering resources to ensure seamless order support. They are tasked with maintaining product development project engineering support, encompassing CTI Data of Record and selection tool data scheduling within Cooling Engineering, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of quotes and designs.

 

The incumbent is tasked with implementing continuous improvement methodologies, fostering a culture of zero-defect quality, and the ongoing pursuit of design optimization, productivity enhancement, and cost-effectiveness.

 

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Engineering Forecasting Management
  • Ensure engineering manpower plans align with Parts order schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate technical efforts to meet project deadlines.
  • Optimize planning and scheduling of internal and external resources.
  1. Technical Leadership
  • Ensure accuracy and competitiveness of Parts products quotes and designs.
  • Lead product performance data generation for development projects.
  • Coordinate staff meetings to optimize engineering processes and resource allocation.
  1.   Performance Management 
  • Lead performance management processes, including mentoring and career planning.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of engineering staff.
  • Develop continuous improvement methodologies for quality and productivity.
  1.   Communication and Reporting
  • Communicate effectively within the Engineering organization.
  • Generate reports and communications of business and technical nature.
  • Report progress against key business and order goals, utilizing performance tracking tools.

 

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

•           Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required.

•           Master’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

•           Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred.

•           PE preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

•           Knowledge of SPX products, along with engineering processes, standards and systems, and standardization.

•           3+ years of cooling tower design experience required.

•           1+ years of experience using quality management system with corrective and preventive action principles.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

•           Experience in sheet metal and fiberglass design using Solid Edge with cooling tower components.

•           Experience in AutoCAD.

•           Experience in SAP or other ERP system with bill of material creation and management.

•           Experience in Access and MS Project preferred.

•           Experience in PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) system with models, drawings, and documents.

•           Experience with cooling tower and cooling tower component design and selection processes.

•           Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

•           Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software desired.

•           Proficiency in Access, MS Project, and SAP desired.

•           Proven leadership and change management skills.

TRAVEL & WORKING ENVIRONMENT

•           Onsite office environment, Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.

•           The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours. 

•           Keyboarding/typing.

•           Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.

•           Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.

•           Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
