Principal Engineer - Lunar Product Infrastructure (R38733)

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. 

 

The Principle Infrastructure Engineer role will report to the Director, Lunar Integration and Test (I&T). The role leads the oversight of all lunar facility infrastructure including production, development labs, test facilities, logistics, storage, and administrative spaces. Much of this role is integrating across the various organizations which manage different aspects of these capabilities brought together to meet Lunar goals. These other organizations include Operations, Facilities, Integrated Supply Chain, EPM, and TFO. Additionally, this leader will vet the use of Government and partner facilities for capability, efficiency, and adequacy for the Lunar purpose when identified for use. Within the Lunar Permanence team, this leader will coordinate with the IPT and Vehicle leads to capture and vet proposed, and modifications to, development, integration, testing, and production infrastructure requests with the Blue Origin support organizations to optimize the cost and schedule trade space. This lead will collate proposed solutions to new infrastructure, status ongoing projects, identify risks and opportunities, and regularly (weekly) status the performance to plan directly with the Program Manager and PMO. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Project Management Responsibilities:

• Management and reporting of scope, budget, schedule and resource allocation of Lunar Funded infrastructure and development thereof.
• Develop and maintain schedule meeting operational readiness and maintenance commitments and performing projects to plan
• Maintain risk and opportunities for all projects for both cost and schedule including active mitigation tracking.
• Maintain a strong safety culture, identifying and implementing safety improvements.
• Mentor IPT leads on infrastructure design and development process.
• Quantify the near-term and far-term build demand as impact to infrastructure needs.
• Predominantly working on-site at Florida Space Coast Facilities.
• Work closely with Facility, Operations, EPM, and TFO leaders, and balance any conflicting Blue capacity needs

Engineering Responsibilities:

• Lead the Lunar team in the design, planning, fabrication, installation, and operation of test and production facilities to the unique requirements to meet technical need with fiscal responsibility.
• Evaluate and coordinate system hazard analyses.
• Define and track facility maintenance to meet operational needs.
• Assess and improve processes for facility configuration management.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS degree in engineering or related field

• 12+ years in an operations environment in large industry, petrochemical, or aerospace facilities

• Strong background in Civil Engineering or Construction

• Strong project management, and team leadership

• Outstanding technical and non-technical writing and verbal skills.

• Proficient with family of program management tools (i.e. MS office Suite, MS project, P6, etc)

• Demonstrated leadership in establishing a high performing safety culture.

• Demonstrated habitual drive to correct errors at their root and not pass them downstream.

• Demonstrated effectiveness in setting high standards of performance and holding teams accountable.

• Demonstrated effectiveness in implementing continuous improvement to improve processes, methods and practices.

• Demonstrated effectiveness in conflict-resolution and an ability to bring a group to a decision.
