About the role

Description

The Family Translational Research Group (FTRG) within the Center for Oral Health Policy & Management at the New York University College of Dentistry is looking for two talented, hard-working people passionate about understanding and preventing family violence and implementation science to join our team. FTRG conducts a wide variety of cutting-edge clinical psychology research on range of topics, such as defining maltreatment in ways that can be reliably used by field workers, determining how couples’ conflict dynamics relate to violence, examining the effects of family violence on children’s psychological and physical functioning, and furthering our understanding of risk and protective factors for child maltreatment and partner abuse. In addition to this basic research, FTRG is involved in several large prevention efforts in the military and is conducting innovative implementation science research. We are currently engaged in two studies examining innovative ways to treat dental fear and phobia to make effective treatment more accessible. Our studies use the full spectrum of research methods — from intensive observational tools to epidemiological surveys. The FTRG typically has at least 10 active federally-funded projects. The group includes several Ph.D. and masters-level psychology and social work researchers, bachelor-level research staff, and student volunteers. The FTRG is co-directed by Dr. Amy M. Smith Slep and Dr. Richard E. Heyman. For more information about our group, go to www.ftrgroup.org

We are looking for individuals to assist with and collaborate on ongoing and upcoming projects. People who join our team can expect great research experience and, depending on skills and interests, excellent applied experience and opportunities for publications and grant writing. If you are excited by the possibility of doing innovative research on family violence in a team environment, we hope you will join us.

Junior Research Scientist: Candidate must have research experience, preferably conducting family research relevant to child maltreatment and/or interpersonal violence and/or training and experience in large-scale prevention trials. Experience working in child welfare or with domestic violence is a plus. Prior experience with coding observations, especially live coding, is preferred. The candidate will work on several projects. These projects will involve military populations; experience with military families and systems is preferred. Strong writing skills are preferred.  It is strongly preferred that applicants have experience with (1) family maltreatment — clinical or research, (2) research — especially with relevance to family maltreatment and/or prevention, and (3) military culture/military families. Strong interpersonal skills and detail orientation are a necessity. This position can be hybrid, and is ideally located in New York City.

NYU offers excellent benefits. Salary and title will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $75,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
