Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

NBCUniversal News Group is seeking a Senior Manager to join its News Standards team, which serves all NBCU News Group platforms and shows. Reporting to the Vice President of Standards, this role provides direct support and guidance to journalists, working with editors, producers, and the news coverage team to uphold the highest editorial and ethical standards. The Senior Manager will play a critical role in safeguarding the credibility and integrity of our journalism, defending and building on the trust NBC News has earned for more than 85 years. 

Job Duties:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for editorial teams seeking guidance on standards and practices. 
  • Review scripts, digital copy, video, podcasts, graphics, banners, and social posts for fairness, accuracy, and compliance with NBCU News Group standards and policies. 
  • Provide fast, thoughtful counsel during breaking news and high-pressure situations, including legally complex or sensitive coverage. 
  • Train and mentor newsroom staff on standards policies, including NBC News foundational standards, social media guidance, AI-generated content, and sensitive coverage areas. 
  • Partner with Legal, PR, and editorial leadership on issues involving corrections, fairness, sourcing, conflicts of interest, and use of third-party content. 
  • Ensure consistency of standards guidance across platforms, balancing speed with editorial responsibility. 
  • Participate in policy development and periodic updates to the Standards library, ensuring alignment with evolving newsroom practices and technology. 
  • Support coverage planning for major events (elections, mass casualty events, high-profile trials) with pre-publication guidance. 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in journalism, with demonstrated editorial judgment and newsroom leadership. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, history, or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of journalistic ethics, newsroom workflows, and legal considerations across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. 
  • Proven ability to remain calm and decisive in breaking news environments, balancing speed with responsibility. 
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills. 
  • Strong collaborative approach, with the ability to partner effectively across platforms and disciplines. 
  • Commitment to NBCU News Group’s values of fairness, accuracy, and transparency. 
  • Ability to handle confidential material with utmost discretion. 
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. 
  • Openness and adaptability to new approaches to content and storytelling. 
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
