Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

COHO IS is seeking experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to provide exceptional care to our Military Veterans at the Des Moines VA Medical Center. The CRNA is responsible for providing a complete range of anesthesia care for a diverse Veteran population including preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthetic administration and monitoring, and post-anesthesia care, in compliance with national Joint Commission accreditation standards.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Effectively performing pre-anesthetic evaluations
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to prepare the anesthesia plan; delivering all forms of anesthesia; providing intra- and post-operative anesthesia care to patients
- Perform the pre-anesthetic patient history and physical, including the collection of preoperative consults and data, performs a patient evaluation and examination from which an appropriate anesthetic plan is formulated
- Prepares the patient, operating room and/or procedural area for the administration of anesthesia
- Administer inhalation, regional, intravenous, local, and/or topical anesthetics with continuous evaluations of the patient’s physical status and response to anesthesia
- Performs post-anesthetic management of patients to optimize the recovery from anesthesia and minimize pain
- Demonstrates skill in conducting and managing anesthesia for a broad range of surgical procedures and the ability to adapt and modify anesthesia techniques in order to optimize patient care
- Applies new developments and theories to recognize and solve various complex anesthesia situations
- Practices with colleagues and peers utilizing a collaborative team concept of anesthesia care while demonstrating effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and interdisciplinary teamwork
Essential Job Requirements
- Clearance:
- U.S. Citizen
- Education/Certifications:
- Master’s degree or doctorate from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council of Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current BLS Certification
- Required Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum 1-year direct patient care experience as a CRNA within the last 3 years
- Current, full active and unrestricted licensure as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia
- Work/Schedule Hours:
- Contractor’s CRNA(s) shall be available and present during normal facility hours, which will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff. Currently, normal hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Off-hours Coverage: Contractor must make the Contractor’s CRNA(s) available on call during all hours when the facility clinic is closed, including evenings, weekends and holidays. NOTE: Each CRNA may expect to cover 25% of facility CRNA off-hours coverage
- Weekday Coverage: Monday - Friday; 3:30 p.m. through 7:00 a.m. of the following day (15.5-hour shifts)
- Weekend Coverage: Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day (24-hour shifts)
- Holiday Coverage: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. of the following day (24-hour shifts)
