Company Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Lifestyle Design and Product Development Team within Universal Products & Experiences, servicing the Universal Pictures’ Consumer Products business. The Associate Manager, Design & PD will report to the Senior Manager and will contribute to the design and development of consumer products within the Fashion and Living categories that drive worldwide brand awareness and deliver revenue to the studio.
Job Description
- Ability to design & art direct from concept through final samples/production
- Expertise in Softlines Categories across fashion & living
- Manage Product Development submissions through a complex matrix of internal stakeholders and external third parties
- Be the key liaison with cross-divisional departments internally such as Legal, Brand Creative, Retail, Category, Asset Management, Filmmakers and Design teams to facilitate effective Product Development approvals for our external licensing partners
- Be the PD expert in assigned category/categories with our Licensees, understanding execution, fabrications/materials, color pallets and technical designs to fit various price points
- Understand licensees’ design & manufacturing capabilities in order to guide efficient product development and develop appropriate solutions execution challenges of our franchises
- Develop trend boards and product POVs based on seasonal trends, themes, color, raw materials and styling as needed for special projects
- Prepare all necessary components for design presentations and product review meeting preparations and line reviews
- Maintain strong knowledge of the retail landscape and monitor retail sales performance of key categories and programs
- Be the expert in all CP creative assets in order to provide accurate PD feedback
- Build and maintain strong, highly collaborative relationships with licensees to build effective partnerships
- Manage product approval meetings to ensure submissions are reviewed by all necessary parties, appropriate feedback / approvals are gathered, and ensure turnaround times are met within the appropriate time frame
- Lead kick off meetings/calls with licensees
- Mentor and train coordinators and interns to develop their knowledge within product development and licensing
- Attend tradeshows and visit licensees as needed to improve brand development and influence strategic direction
- Prepare detailed recap notes from key meetings and share with the team
- Be vocal at creative meetings when it’s crucial to give PD’s point of view especially on asset development
Qualifications
- 3 years min industry experience in product development
- Highly organized, proactive – a self-starter
- Resourceful in troubleshooting issues
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and able to provide clear direction, along with organization skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Fully proficient with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Ability to use keynote, Microsoft Word, Excel and ,Media Box system online product approval & CAF

- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
