Food Service Worker Job Description

 

The Food Service Worker serves as a cafeteria worker helping in all steps of food presentation, setup, serving, and sanitation of the kitchen and dining room.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of tasks having several steps or a sequence of tasks that require attention to work operations in a kitchen, and the dining area following established procedures.
  • Set up and replenish cafeteria lines, steamtables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items, including meat, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and beverages.
  • Assemble or toss fresh fruit and green salads in quantity using prepared dressings and portions into standard serving sizes.
  • Make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.

Dining Hall:

  • Clean all tabletops and ensure that all counters and windowsills are free from dust.
  • May assist in ensuring that all dining facility floors are swept and mopped daily.
  • Ensure that all napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers, and condiments dispensers are full before and after each meal.

Kitchen:

  • Remove all dishes from the collection station and wash according to HACCP standards.
  • Wash all dishes, pots and pans and utensils in accordance with the HACCP standards.
  • Clean other kitchen equipment daily, or as needed.

Requirements:

  • Must follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow established sequence of work
  • Demonstrated history of related food service experience preferably with a major institution or the military is desired.
  • ServSafe certification preferred; may be required if hired.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in a standing position in the dining facility and kitchen area for 6 to 7 hours (excluding break and lunch periods)
  • Some bending and stooping

  • Adhere to the Company rules and regulations as set forth in the employee handbook.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
