The Team:
The Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) provides assessment and management for older people with mental illness, for people with dementias with psychiatric signs and symptoms, and for people with dementia with social complications. The OPMHS works in a multidisciplinary team (MDT) model. The OPMHS provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, or treatment and management recommendations. It also facilitates engagement of patients and families and friends with appropriate services.
The psychiatrist plays a lead role in the clinical care of patients.
The Role:
- Assessment and diagnosis of mental illness and dementias in the frail aged in various settings, including clinic, patients’ homes, residential aged care facilities, and the Roy Fagan Centre (RFC) subacute inpatient facility.
- Treatment of mental illness and the treatment or management of psychiatric signs or social complications of dementia.
- Community team: Development of management plans in conjunction with the MDT and case managers
- Outpatient clinic: assessment and treatment of patients who do not require case-management.
- Roy Fagan centre (RFC): Assessment , management and treatment of subacute inpatients, leading an MDT.
- Use of the protective jurisdictions of the Mental Health Act 2013 and the Guardianship and Administration Act 1995
- Participation in an on-call roster for the subacute inpatient service (RFC)

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, part time, day worker (with on-call) position, working up to 68.4 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 January 2026.

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioners
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging.
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year.
- Motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
- Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata

Eligibility:

- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
