Certified Registered Nurse AnesthetistSummary
Performs a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient and then administers pre-anesthetic medications and fluids. Performs induction, maintenance, and emergence of general, regional, or MAC anesthetic. Recognizes and reports abnormal patient responses during anesthesia to the collaborating physician.
Job Duties
- Assesses and evaluates admission reports, physicians’ evaluation, and diagnosis, laboratory tests, and other written documents.
- Develops and implements an anesthetic plan of care, which includes monitoring modalities and post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation.
- Administers appropriate injection and medication and monitors medication efficacy.
- Maintains accurate patient anesthesiology records, charts, and other documents.
- Assembles necessary supplies and equipment needed and tests equipment to ensure proper function prior to commencing anesthesia.
- Performs quality assurance assessments and provides recommendations for optimal performance.
- Supports life functions during the administration of anesthesia, such as induction and intubation.
- Collects fluid volumes and manages blood product administration.
- Participates in the debriefing at the completion of surgery.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree Nursing (Certified Prior to 1986) or
- Bachelor’s Degree Nursing (Certified Prior to 1998) or
- Master’s Degree Nurse Anesthesia (Certified Prior to 2025) or
- Doctorate Nurse Anesthesia or
- 2 years Experience in an acute care nursing setting. and
- Less than 1 year Experience working in a clinical environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
- Knowledge of IV products and compounding procedures.
- Knowledge of hospital and clinical workflows.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of best practices in anesthesiology.
- Ability to utilize critical thinking in high stress clinical situations.

Physical Demands
Depending on role and specialty as well as condition of the patient, this may vary and include light energy levels of lifting or carrying 25 lbs. through high energy which would include lifting 50 lbs., pushing and pulling and carrying items short distances.
