Unit Overview

 

The ICU at Duke Regional is comprised of 22 beds. Our team of nursing staff provides care for patients 14 years or older with actual or potential life-threatening conditions by performing complex assessments, high intensity therapies, interventions, and continuous monitoring. Affords the clinical experience to attain strong critical thinking skills, vast knowledge of disease processes and body systems, and robust care management skills. The ICU at Duke Regional offers phenomenal teamwork, multi-disciplinary collaboration and professional respect – a dynamic environment for professional development. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time.

 

Shift Information

 

Fulltime: 36 hours per week

Three (3) 12-hour shifts

Day (7a-7p) or Night shift (7p-7a)

 

 

Occ Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Work Performed

Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care. Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensedand unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned. Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environmentof care including equipment and material resources. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Act as preceptor and support thedevelopment of other staff and formal learners. Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
