We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join the Core UI team that sits within Foundational Services program under the Mastercard Data & Services division.
The Foundational Services group builds scalable, easy-to-use services and frameworks that provide the foundation for many of Mastercard's customer-facing applications. Our customers are market-facing product engineering teams and our goal is to help them take maximum advantage of platform capabilities and to evolve our platform to meet their needs and the needs of our customers.
Within Foundational Services, the Core UI team focuses on front-end infrastructure, core front-end services, and a tiered design system platform. We also own and support a handful of full-stack web apps that provide core services to end users.
The Core UI team is a high-performing team whose mission is to drive platform-wide user success through delivery of core product functionality and front-end architecture. Our users include both end-users and other product teams throughout Mastercard. We define user success by enabling user independence, improving usability, and increasing developer efficiency.
As a software engineering manager on Core UI, you will wear multiple hats, both as a people manager (50% of your time) and as a senior engineer on the team (50% of your time). You will manage and mentor direct reports. You should be interested in being a multiplier for your team. You will be hands-on with the team’s day-to-day engineering work, which will include writing high-quality software code, providing technical feedback, anticipating technical challenges, and engaging in cross-role/cross-team interactions daily to deliver on sprint goals.

As a part of Data & Services, you will build revolutionary products that advance how businesses all over the world seize the most value from their data. As a Software Engineer Manager within the Core UI team, you will:
- Design, build, and maintain a design system that is themeable, robust, scalable, well-tested, and well-documented
- Design and build React components that are composable, reusable, responsive, and accessible
- Design and build reusable npm and nuget packages that serve a broad audience and provide core front-end services across multiple products
- Design, build, and innovate on front-end infrastructure so that we can provide an outstanding modern development experience for consuming teams and continue to shrink the legacy codebase footprint
- Be a strong individual contributor to the implementation efforts for all team work
- Critically review code and guide the team with a focus on improving code quality
- Lead large-scale projects from inception to release
- Provide technical mentorship to other team members. Grow others while growing yourself.
- Play a key role in shaping the direction of engineering processes of a team that is empowered to organize and run as they see fit
- Manage software engineers through regular 1:1s, mentorship, and constructive feedback
- Collaborate across teams with exceptional peers who are passionate about what they do
All About You
The ideal candidate for this position should:
- Excited about writing high quality code, equally excited about shaping the trajectory of your team and developing a high performing team
- Strong understanding of JavaScript web frameworks like React/Redux, Angular, etc., as well as vanilla JavaScript
- Strong understanding of other front-end technologies/tools (e.g., Typescript, web components, CSS, npm, Figma, Storybook, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of front-end testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Playright, Cypress, etc.)
- Familiarity with design systems, design tokens, and component-based UI development. Any experience building or contributing to a design system is a plus.
