ABOUT THE POSITION

Our Distribution Centers utilize state-of-the-art technology and a dedicated team to provide Columbia Sportswear Company a competitive advantage in distribution. Teams are responsible for shipping millions of units of apparel, footwear, and equipment annually within the family of brands. Accurate order fulfillment and on-time shipments are the hallmarks of our facility.

As an Area Manager, you will have the opportunity to lead a team within a specific department or departments of the distribution center. Your role encompasses being a servant leader who establishes a strong safety culture, solid interpersonal relationships, a tactical thought process, and exceptional communication. You will lead your team to be agile urgently delivering on consumer demand for speed to market, relentlessly executing through deliberate operational planning, inspiring your team of talent to achieve the impossible, and collaboratively building relationships. Through your ability to relentlessly execute, your team will have a clear understanding of related goals and objectives for the department and building specific KPIs, how to proactively anticipate and avoid production delays, actively problem solve and make data-driven decisions, and demonstrate mutual respect and accountability with one another. Your ability to gain trust and credibility with your team will be displayed in your commitment to your leaders and their teams’ success by spending time on the production floor daily and enthusiastically engaging with each of them.

*This position will be onsite at our Robards, Kentucky location Monday – Thursday starting around 4:00pm to 2:00am.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Supervise employees in your assigned area.  Includes scheduling employees to ensure adequate department coverage.  Monitor workflow, anticipate changes, and adjust staffing as needed.  Work with the coordinator to train department personnel in proper work methods and ensuring these methods are followed.

  • Protect the well-being and safety of department personnel by training employees in safe work practices.  Confirm that these practices are being followed, through supervision and follow-through.  Ensure that all equipment is safe, in good working order, and properly maintained.

  • Coordinate with other departments and technical support staff to ensure a smooth flow of information and products.

  • Coordinate with the department manager to ensure proper staffing of temporary help and full-time positions.

  • Maintain efficiency and production goals for individuals and the department.

  • Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff, and other departments to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.

  • Ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.

YOU HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain/Operations Management or Logistics, or 4 years of equivalent experience

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience supervising or managing others

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience with material handling and/or warehouse and distribution operations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • The physical ability to use telephone, computer, and keyboard equipment, move freely around the distribution center, stoop, sit, and crouch for extended periods.

  • The ability to regularly carry up to 40+ pounds and push up to 80 pounds.
