Collins Aerospace is currently seeking qualified candidates for experienced software engineers in our Military Avionics & Helicopters Flight Management Applications department located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Teams are comprised of cross-functional engineers working in an AGILE environment (approximately 6-10 people) focused on the design and development of software only products. Product Summary :

FACE (Future Airborne Capability Environment) - Our software as a product used to support not only navigation, flight planning, and guidance with our MFMS-1000 solution, but also hazard avoidance in real time as part of our Avoidance Re-Router (ARR-7000), which are being deployed on a variety of emerging platforms and next generation pursuits. Job Responsibilities:

This job is focused on the technical aspects of product development related to architectures as well as the design and development process related to software development.  Expectations include leading technical decisions that align with the highest standards in quality while maintaining a diverse product line portfolio and customer contracts. Our experienced engineers are involved in all aspects of the product life cycle, from bid and proposal to certification and support.   

Other responsibilities and job requirements include:

  • Demonstrated time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work  

  • Demonstrated management of the relationship between cost and value  

  • Succeed while leading in a team environment  

  • Strong Technical Skills specifically in systems based development.  

  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international <20%)  

  • This position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 7:30am to 4:30pm workday, or beyond a 40 hour work week.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in the design and development of deliverable software (production or consumer facing)  

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Defense or Aerospace industry experience is preferred  

  • Experience with FACE Standard, Data Modeling, SW Integration

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker Deployment, Linux, Real-Time Embedded software development

  • DO-178 or similar certification based development experience is preferred  

  • AGILE development experience is preferred
