(Job #548792) Administrative Analyst/Specialist II, Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, Salary Range: $5,537 - $10,014 monthly. Hiring Range: $5,537 - $5,814 monthly. This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Risk Management & Safety Services Department. Position Summary:
The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist plays a key role in supporting and developing campus-wide environmental health and safety programs. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, EPA, and Cal/OSHA standards. The Specialist contributes to creating a safe academic and work environment through program development, risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, training, and technical compliance in areas such as storm water, biosafety, hazardous waste, and general occupational safety. This position supports the University's growth and compliance goals as a designated polytechnic institution.
Key Responsibilities:
EH&S Program Compliance and Coordination – 30%
- Support and monitor compliance with regulations including OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, CUPA, and local ordinances
- Assist with regulatory reporting and inspections
- Coordinate hazardous waste handling and documentation
- Participate in storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) activities
- Assist with biosafety inspections and compliance tracking
- Maintain records for chemical hygiene plans and other regulated programs
Ergonomics and Occupational Safety Support – 20%
- Conduct ergonomic workstation evaluations and recommend improvements
- Assist with occupational safety audits and risk assessments - Support injury prevention initiatives
- Maintain training records and ensure follow-up on corrective actions
Laboratory and Hazardous Materials Oversight – 20%
- Perform routine lab safety inspections and compliance audits
- Maintain hazardous material inventory and coordinate waste pickups
- Provide support to departments using chemicals or hazardous processes
- Assist faculty and lab managers with compliance needs
Training, Outreach, and Program Development – 15%
- Deliver or coordinate EH&S-related trainings (e.g., lab safety, ergonomics, hazardous materials)
- Develop educational and awareness materials for campus stakeholders
- Help update EH&S program SOPs and manuals
Risk Management & Emergency Preparedness Support – 10%
- Provide support to the Emergency Operations Center during activations
- Assist with preparedness
