Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

As the Assistant Bursar – Business Operations Manager, you will be responsible for financial reconciliations between the University Bursar’s Office and General Accounting in the Business Services / Controller’s units. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining various complex reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of the financial data feeding from the student system via interfaces to the accounting system. You will also coordinate with central IS staff, functional leads in the Enterprise Systems Group, Modernization team and functional users in University Bursar’s Office and General Accounting. You will develop and maintain queries and reports from each system and will run them in daily production to validate that all financial data from one system interfaced correctly with the other. You will review and reconcile all general ledger balances for University Receivables and Loans Receivables. You will review, analyze, verify, and correct the financial data between the student system and the external loan management system (ECSI). You will investigate and resolve all discrepancies. This reconciliation work requires a thorough understanding of accounts receivable and loan accounting. You will prepare all annual workpapers and FISAP documents submitting them to the University Bursar’s Office Director for review and approval. Additionally, you will review all processes related to the student system to determine where the processes can be improved, streamlined, and made more efficient and to ensure that proper internal controls are in place and working.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency level with Microsoft software programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with WSU accounting systems.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency level with Microsoft or other database applications, such as Access or FoxPro.

  • Accounting experience that involves balancing large dollar accounts with large number of transactions.

  • Experience working in a busy office environment that requires multi-tasking.

  • Previous experience in higher education

Monthly Salary:

$4,942.10 - $7,569.55

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
