Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Retirement Plans is responsible for the strategic oversight, design, and administration of the organization’s retirement plans, defined contribution, and other supplemental retirement programs. Reporting to the EVP & CHRO, this role ensures that all retirement plans comply with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices while aligning with the organization's financial objectives. The Senior Director collaborates with senior leadership and the Retirement Committee to develop retirement strategies that support overall employee well-being and attract and retain talent.
 

Essential Functions: 

  • Develop and manage the strategic direction of the company’s retirement programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and employee needs.
  • Oversee the administration of all retirement plans, including defined benefit, defined contribution (e.g., 401(k), 403(b)), and non-qualified deferred compensation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including ERISA, IRS, DOL, and other applicable laws. Maintain plan documents and oversee annual filings such as Form 5500.
  • Partner with external consultants and vendors to manage plan investments, participant experience, employee retirement preparation, monitor performance, and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead the development and implementation of retirement communication strategies to educate and engage employees about plan benefits and options.
  • Manage plan audits and work with internal/external auditors to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor trends in retirement plan design and benefits legislation, recommending plan enhancements or changes as needed.
  • Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on retirement plan matters and contribute to broader Total Rewards and HR strategy discussions.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in retirement plan administration, design, and compliance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in a large multi-site organization.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, IRS, DOL regulations, and other retirement plan-related compliance requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of retirement plan design, administration, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex regulations into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to senior leadership and employees at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership skills.
