The Senior Pharmacy Technician (Certified) provides support to pharmacists, clinical pharmacy practitioners, and managers in all aspects of providing pharmacy services. It is the Senior Pharmacy Technician (Certified) that helps identify and improve pharmacy operations and serves as a leader in their area of expertise. The Senior Pharmacy Technician (Certified) participates in quality improvement initiatives within the department. The Senior Pharmacy Technician (Certified) has a history of qualitative consistency and productivity in multiple core areas and works with minimal supervision and guidance.

- Unit Dose - Includes packaging, filling, and distributing medications. Prepackages medications for use in unit dose, outpatient and IV additive drug distribution. Orders drugs and supplies using predetermined stock levels (where available); re-stock shelves.
- Delivery - Includes the transportation of medications and supplies from the pharmacy to areas outside the pharmacy. This includes medication cart delivery, floor stock, and patient specific medications to patient care areas.
- Computer skills - A basic understanding of pharmacy systems is required (i.e. labels, printer paper, etc.). For example: must have the ability to type and print labels from site pharmacy systems (e.g. Epic, etc.) and other site-specific pharmacy systems.
- Automated Dispensing machines (if available at site) - Ability to sign in, load, refill, remove, print reports, and understand the basic operating procedures for the Automated Dispensing machines and related systems. Identify and communicate discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
- Pneumatic tube (if available at site) - Able to operate the pneumatic tube station. Able to prioritize medications and coordinate their distribution to the floors.
- Medical terminology - Understands and can communicate with other healthcare professionals using basic medical terminology. This includes understanding brand and generic pharmaceutical names and the hospital formulary system.
- Parenteral Products - Using aseptic technique, prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile products (including chemotherapy at designated sites), fills syringes, and reconstitutes small volume injectable pharmaceutical for subsequent check and dispensing by a pharmacist.
- Compounding - Selects bulk pharmaceutical according to prearranged and pharmacist approved work sheets and prepares final products for subsequent check by a pharmacist.
- Answer front window, Pharmacy door and telephones
- Education: required High School Diploma or GED.
- License and Certification: Current pharmacy technician registration and certification that is recognized by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy is required.
- Years of Experience: 2 Years equivalent experience, 3-5
