Department Overview

Golub Capital’s Broadly Syndicated Loans Group (“BSL”) curates well diversified portfolios of high quality syndicated senior secured loans. The group purchases assets in the syndicated loan market that are structured, arranged and administered by large commercial or investment banks. These arranged loans are sold broadly to institutional investors such as Golub Capital and tend to be liquid in the secondary market. Our team manages these investments primarily in a series of Collateralized Loan Obligations, Separately Managed Accounts and Opportunistic Credit Funds. The Broadly Syndicated Loans Team works closely with all Firm departments to ensure effective analysis, portfolio management and reporting.

Position Responsibilities

The Senior Associate will work directly with the Head of BSL Workout to assist with:

  • Managing a portfolio of the Firm’s most troubled investments, primarily comprised of high quality syndicated senior secured loans
  • Developing and implementing plans for maximizing recoveries and minimizing losses on the portfolio
  • Preparing, analyzing and modeling potential restructuring alternatives and developing analyses and what-if scenarios
  • Preparing restructuring / amendment / waiver requests along with other written updates on portfolio accounts
  • Negotiating with various constituencies including financial sponsors, management, other bank group members and other lenders in the capital structure
  • Preparing portfolio update reports
  • Developing and maintaining a core set of advantageous relationships with other lenders as well as with legal, financial and operational advisors
  • Supporting senior team members as needed

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with a major in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related financial discipline with an outstanding record of academic achievement
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in a finance function, preferably with distressed experience either within an investment bank’s restructuring group or within a buyside investment team
  • Formal credit training with experience analyzing stressed and distressed situations
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling and research skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external parties
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Highly organized as well as detail and process oriented is a must
  • Experience working with financial sponsors is a plus
  • Enthusiastic about working in office and creating a Gold Standard hybrid work culture
