Job Summary
Collaborates with physician and physicist to design radiation treatment plans. Calculates radiation dosages according to physician approved prescription. Performs QA as stated in approved department policies. Obtains CT/MRI and other diagnostic images to be used in treatment planning. Coordinates patient care with simulation, treatment, and nursing. Assists with brachytherapy procedures as needed. Assists with patient treatments as needed.
Education
Bachelors in Scientific technical field (i.e. Radiation Therapy Technology, Physics, Math) Required or graduation from a school of Medical Dosimetry (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Certifications, Licensures and Registrations
- Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) or Board eligible by MDCB (certification must be completed within one year of eligibility).
- BLS Provider Certification from either American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Experience
- None if graduation from Medical Dosimetry school
- If a Bachelor's degree: One (1) year of health care experience required;
- If an Associate's degree: Must be a registered radiation therapist and have four (4) years of experience in medical dosimetry working under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or medical physicist.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Capable of working Independently, but in conjunction with the physician and physicists to develop treatment plans.
- Good problem solving skills to develop complex plans for all situations.
- Understands and achieves all levels of approval for physician's orders related to plans and calculations
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information to all Radiation Therapy staff.
- Compassionate caregiver .
- Interacts with all staff in a professional, pleasant and effective manner.
