Job Summary:

The Services to Students with Disabilities (SSD) office at California State University, San Bernardino provides academic support services designed to ensure equal access and inclusion for students with disabilities. The Class Aide Student Assistant plays a critical front-line role in this mission by supporting students approved for class aide accommodations and ensuring they can fully participate in the academic experience.

Working under the lead work direction of the SSD Accommodations Coordinator team, Class Aides provide in-person classroom support that removes physical and logistical barriers to learning. Depending on the student’s needs, Class Aides may assist with in-person class activities, manage classroom technology to support remote participation, or facilitate communication between the student, instructor, and SSD. Regardless of the instructional format, Class Aides are required to perform their duties in person on campus.

This position focuses exclusively on providing accommodation-related classroom support and serves as a direct extension of SSD’s commitment to access, equity, and inclusion. Class Aide Student Assistants gain valuable experience in professional communication, collaboration, and disability awareness while contributing to an inclusive academic environment that empowers all students to succeed.

Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision, duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide in-person classroom support to students approved for class aide accommodations through SSD.
- Assist students with tasks necessary to access course content and participate in class activities, such as handling materials, operating classroom tools or technology, and facilitating access to lab or group environments.
- Serve as a liaison between SSD, the student, and course instructors to ensure accommodation needs are implemented appropriately and promptly.
- Support SSD students who participate in remote or hybrid instruction by facilitating classroom setup, communication, and connection as directed by SSD staff.
- Monitor class attendance, engagement, and related tasks as assigned to support the student’s approved accommodations.
- Maintain timely communication with the assigned SSD Accommodations Coordinator regarding schedules, attendance, or concerns impacting service delivery.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism at all times in accordance with FERPA and SSD policies.
- Participate in SSD meetings, check-ins, or required trainings to ensure understanding of procedures, expectations, and best practices.
- Report any observed safety or access concerns to SSD staff immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support accommodation delivery and SSD operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Special Conditions 

Ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week

Compensation and Benefits:

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 - $17.50 per hour.

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information:

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
