About the role

Description

The Institute for Latino Studies and the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame are pleased to announce a search for the Julian Samora Endowed Chair in Latino Studies.  We seek a prolific and visionary humanities scholar to honor the legacy of Julian Samora, a foundational figure in the field of Latino studies and long-time Notre Dame faculty member, and complement our profile in the field of U.S. Latinx studies.  The successful candidate will have a world-class record of research, teaching, and service in Latinx studies as well as in their home discipline.

The Institute for Latino Studies (ILS) at Notre Dame is a vibrant community of graduate students, postdocs, approximately 100 undergraduate majors and minors, and 33 faculty fellows from across the university.  The Julian Samora Chair will have an ILS affiliation but will be based in a humanities department, specifically American Studies or English.  Although we are open to other departmental placements, those departments have expressly committed to working with the ILS to make this important appointment and will be prioritized.

Application Instructions

Interested scholars should submit a CV and cover letter through Interfolio.  The search committee will follow up with a request for additional materials from long-list candidates.  Applications received by January 5, 2026 will receive the fullest consideration.  Questions can be directed to ILS Director Jason Ruiz at jason.ruiz@nd.edu.
