Position Purpose

Under little or no supervision and acting on own initiative, the Bottling Maintenance Supervisor directly supervises and coordinates the activities of mechanics, installers, and repairers engaged in the general service of automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, or electro-pneumatic equipment in support of bottling and production operations.  Utilizes knowledge, skills, and abilities independently or as part of a team to contribute to the continuous improvement of enterprise-wide productivity, quality, safety, and cost-saving metrics.

Functional Responsibility

  • Assigns daily tasks and monitors the output of the team to meet production requirements
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
  • Provides immediate feedback and directly assists team to maintain level of productivity and deliver daily results
  • Informs supervisor of staffing needs
  • Ensures employees have a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment; provides applicable safety training and resolves/reports safety issues to management
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Communicates closely with supervisor regarding  employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations and advises supervisor of any infractions; assigns and monitors employee breaks and lunches and provides backup relief
  • Adheres to departmental GPS (Performance Management) guidelines and ensures proper GPS  documentation; trains employees to do the job; identifies and makes suggestions for training needs and development opportunities

Essential Duties

  • Establish, maintain, and improve the maintenance planning and scheduling processes as it relates to determination of preventative and reactive maintenance, scheduling, sequencing, and the assigning of work activities based on production priorities, short and long-term needs, and team member skillset
  • Actively maintains and improves departmental spare parts inventory system, including parts requisitions, receiving, and stocking; material cycle counts; system audits; and historical or predictive trend reporting
  • Mentors at an appropriate level of supervision, coaching, and direct feedback to ensure each direct report is trained and empowered to perform at optimal levels in support of short and long term objectives
  • Participate in downtime, troubleshooting, problem-solving, or other operation-related events
  • Works cohesively with other Maintenance Supervisors, Production Managers, Bottling Manager, QC & Q.A. Managers and the Bottling Maintenance Manager to ensure quality, consistency and efficiency in all phases of bottling production, procedures and policies
  • Enforces Safety, ISO, GMP, DOE, and applicable business-critical standards

Non-Essential Duties

  • Promotes continuous improvement and reduction of waste through lean initiatives, root cause exercises, and evaluation metrics
  • Inspects, tests, and measures completed work using appropriate hand tools, gauges, etc. to verify conformance to standards
  • Determines staffing requirements and fully participates in the interviewing training, and development processes for new employees
  • Approves expenditures for supplies, materials, or staff;

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • An AA/AS degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance beneficial
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience performing repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated, servo-mechanical, or electromechanical equipment in a bottling, labeling, and/or packaging equipment environment or relevant, industrial maintenance/production experience
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated supervisory experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Has the ability to analyze test results, machine error messages, blueprints, repair manuals, parts catalogs, and information obtained from operators to diagnose, solve, and correct equipment problems
  • Has the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Problem Sensitivity — the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
