The Principal Bioinformatician possesses the skillsets of the senior bioinformatician with the following additional or enhanced skills: able to select and apply independently a variety of bioinformatics and computational biology tools and techniques. Major contributor to supported projects. Can design and develop new methods to address scientific problems. Is first author on publications and or presentations or is the lead on clinical assay development (CGSL). Stay updated on recent published work and methods. Has demonstrated the ability to train others in primary area of expertise. Can independently assemble and give external presentations on bioinformatics projects or methods. Capable of managing a team of Bioinformaticians. Plans and develops task assignments, and oversee the implementation and deliverables of those tasks.

Master's in bioinformatics or a similar field emphasizing analytical omics expertise with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience OR PhD in bioinformatics or a similar field emphasizing analytical omics expertise with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
Requires a division level knowledge of the institution and must function as an information resource and mentor. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Expertise in the use of informatics computing and data management packages. Ability to prioritize, organize, and delegate various tasks on multiple, concurrent projects. Demonstrated success as an independent consulting informatics specialist on most projects. Frequently demonstrated initiative/innovation in administration, education (seminars, training), software development, and technical reports. Strong project management skills. A commitment to customer service with an attitude of owning the experience of each customer is required.
