As an Automation Supervisor, you will develop innovative solutions to support revisions to existing products, line extensions, and new products. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Responsibilities

  • Work safely by following company policy and using appropriate PPE requirements where necessary.
  • Develop innovative and manufacturing friendly design solutions to support new and existing products.
  • Generate 2D and 3D CAD models to align with company drafting standards.
  • Design and create prototypes to demonstrate fit, form, and function.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure cross functional collaboration and success. 
  • Create and execute test plans to validate design concepts.
  • Document and peer review test results using test plans and test reports.
  • Develop and/or modify bill of materials per design intent and certification testing.
  • Communicate and coordinate with cross functional partners (Product managers, advanced manufacturing engineers, supply chain, suppliers, process development, quality, sales, marketing, finance, & IT).
  • Manage engineering projects and timelines through project planning and timely execution of tasks.
  • Lead the technical components of multiple projects while communicating project scope and status updates to leadership through written communication, presentations, and the new product development methodology.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to budget, schedule, and scope constraints.
  • Take projects from concept, through prototyping and testing.
  • Create detailed drawings and engineering documentation to support production.
  • Apply Human Error Prevention (HEP) principles to enhance design reliability and reduce potential mistakes.
  • Lead critical thinking exercises to analyze problems, predict potential failures, and develop solutions.
  • Lead engineering builds and oversee prototype assembly and testing.
  • Mentor and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Develop installation guides to support proper product implementation.
  • Provide Hypercare support to ensure smooth product launches and issue resolution.
  • Participate in AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) and purchase agreements to support procurement decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, Advanced Manufacturing Engineers, Supply Chain, Suppliers, Process Development, Quality, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and IT, to implement design solutions.
  • Engage with industry experts to stay ahead of best practices and advancements.
  • Explore opportunities to work outside the industry to bring in fresh ideas and innovations.
  • Provide leadership to 24/7 support of site process automation and data collection systems for manufacturing and utilities systems.
  • Responsible for day-to-day oversight of 24/7 process automation work orders, payroll authorizations, performance reviews, coaching/mentoring, and any formal documentation related to process automation team.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Automation team of 7-10 direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited course of study in engineering (or other four-year technical discipline) and/or relevant 2- year associates degree in combination with 5 or more years of experience.
  • Previous experience in Design Engineering preferred.
  • Proficient using 2D and 3D computer aided drafting/design software, Solidworks 3D experience preferred
  • Finite Element Analysis FEA experience preferred. 
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Practical knowledge of process improvement & development tools: 8D, Six Sigma, DMAIC, Stage Gate, etc.
  • Experience with predicting potential failure modes (design FMEA, Fishbone, 5-Whys, etc.)
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and ability to set priorities for multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills in both writ
