Shift: (1st shift)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5:00 AM - 2:00 PM (flex as needed).

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including overtime & weekends (Saturday & Sunday).This position is eligible for overtime pay and is paid weekly.

SUMMARY: Responsibilities will vary from performing one procedure or work instruction to a number of analytical, microbiological, or quality system procedures or work instructions in a Food Safety Laboratory. Precision and accuracy in performance of the work instructions and data collection is essential; must be able to maintain ISO records for process control and comply with quality system and safety requirements. The Associate Lab Chemist position is responsible for:

  • Following standard operating procedures and repetitive operations such as doing lab tests.

  • Performing physical and visual inspections of product, equipment, and plant systems then documenting and calculating results accurately.

  • Taking corrective action when necessary (alert appropriate personnel to adjust process; identify, segregate, & isolate non-conforming product) and report results to management.

  • Review daily FSQA records for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established requirements.

  • Investigate all issues where nonconformance's are identified on their shift and verify that all non-conforming product is properly isolated, identified and placed on Hold. Identify and address the cause of the problem.

  • Inform FSQA management of all Quality & Food Safety issues which were identified on their shift in a timely manner.

  • Inspect product to determine compliance with order specifications, the company’s quality control system for compliance with legal requirements, and shipping and packing facilities for conformity to specified standards.

  • Understand responsibilities and perform all duties in accordance with USDA, company policy, and established procedures.

  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data.

  • Preparing samples for analysis, ensuring accuracy and consistency. 

  • Preparing and presenting reports that document daily tasks and findings. 

  • Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment. 

  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

  • Must be able to conduct sensory testing (smell, taste, texture, appearance) on meat product with pork, beef, and poultry.

  • Any additional assignments requested. Daily work will be determined and assigned by supervisor.

  • All team members are responsible for safety. This includes but is not limited to personal safety and food safety.


REQUIREMENTS:
Education: College level courses or degree in Biology Microbiology Chemistry Food Science and or Physical Sciences preferred.
Experience: 1+ year experience or related food manufacturing industry OR related Food Safety & Quality Assurance type experience is a must. Laboratory experience in food chemistry preferred.

Communication Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with management.

Computer Skills: Strong computer skills. General knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office Applications. Must be proficient in computer data entry and analysis, email communication, and understanding file management.
