Details of Research Project: 

The 2-year postdoctoral fellowship position is within Mount Sinai’s Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training Program in Brain Injury and Rehabilitation, which is housed within the Brain Injury Research Center of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The fellowship aims to build capacity to conduct high-impact, clinically relevant, methodologically rigorous rehabilitation research to improve health and function for individuals living with TBI.

 

 

 

Technical Duties: 

Your anticipated duties will include using multimodal data from the Late Effects of TBI study to investigate clinical signatures and biological markers of post-traumatic neurodegeneration and late effects of TBI. You will use existing and newly collected data from the TBI Model System of Care national database and local studies, in addition to newly collected data from the ENRICH Brain Health study, to investigate long-term outcomes of TBI. National and international data resources will be identified to further support individual research interests. You may also participate in new data collection in areas that align with ongoing research projects within the Brain Injury Research Center. You will pursue one or more independent research projects in an area of research aligned with your interest and career goals, and contribute to independent and/or collaborative grant writing to pursue that line of research. Independent projects may explore implications of brain injury in the autistic population You will also participate in community engagement and outreach activities, and core didactics in rehabilitation research methods, brain injury rehabilitation, health disparities, implementation science, public policy, and knowledge translation. 

Fellows will spend at least 80% of their time on research including Mount Sinai ARRT-specific activities, and remaining time on activities related to their IDP and career development goals. Fellows will complete an individualized development plan and articulate their training and career goals, receive mentorship from mentors selected based on beneficial matches on interest, expertise and work style. Fellows will receive training in mentorship and gain experience providing mentorship to others. They will participate in collaborative research, collaborating on one or more studies across collaborating mentors’ labs and receive protected time to conduct independent research. They will receive hands on training in implementation science, knowledge translation, and participate in community and stakeholder engagement. Fellows will also complete training on scientific writing and development, professional and career development, and grant writing. 

 

Educational and other Requirements for the position: Completed a doctoral or equivalent degree in a clinical or quantitative field.

 

Experience Required: 

Candidates will demonstrate potential for independent research (e.g., completed a quantitative dissertation, strong independent data analytic skills, peer-reviewed publications, multiple conference presentations, and/or at least 2 years of research experience). All candidates must have strong foundational skills in data analysis, and interest and commitment to rehabilitation research must be evident in prior experience, personal statement and/or letters of reference. 

 

Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project: Fellows will produce scientific publications, presentations, and grant proposal(s).
