Compensation for this role: $83,000.00 - $88,000.00 (commensurate with experience)

 

On-site – Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

 

Summary:

The Physical Testing Lab Supervisor leads and coordinates a team of quality technicians within a controlled laboratory testing environment focused on evaluating the physical properties of materials. This role oversees the testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products—including honeycomb block produced by The Gill Corporation – MD as well as customer- and vendor-supplied materials—to ensure they meet required specifications prior to manufacturing release. By driving accurate testing of properties such as strength, durability, and density, the supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining quality standards, supporting regulatory compliance, and enabling reliable production outcomes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


Understands customer and industry specifications to ensure accurate testing and compliance and communicates daily work instructions and performance expectations to work group.
Maintains open communication with Director, keeping them informed of activities within the work group.
Ensures all documentation is complete and accurate with signatures, dates and all other required information.
Trains new/existing associates on the required skills and operations on an ongoing basis.
Fosters a positive work atmosphere, ensuring the work group is challenged and focused to perform the highest quality and maximum product output.
Consistently maintains a clean and organized work area.
Assists the current lab technicians with daily tasks such as scanning, prep work, layup, labeling, and eventually learning to complete paperwork and testing.
Oversees receiving inspection tests of raw materials used to produce finished product.
Coordinates visual and dimensional acceptance tests in accordance with TGC-MD and/or customer specifications.
Generates lab test data sheets with material status and non-conformance reports.
Performs release of accepted product and identifies released material with proper acceptance identification.
Maintains a retrieval file system for documented objective evidence of material status.
Develops qualification matrix for qualification of honeycomb block material.
Performs qualification testing and generates reports showing test results.
Manages "Form B" equipment sign-off sheets.
Maintains environmental control charts in the lab and designated areas on the shop floor.
Strictly adheres to plant safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental health standards. Reports any unsafe work conditions to Safety Manager, supervisor, or management.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Required:



 



Minimum of Associates degree in a technical or science-based field - preferably materials, chemistry, quality, or equivalent lab experience required.

Four (4) years of experience in quality testing; equivalent combination of education and experience considered, plus a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience with accountability for staff performance and operational/process outcomes.



Proficiency in SAP, LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Must have English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, write, understand, and communicate the company's operating procedures and policies.
