Upwork's Operations Engineering team is passionate about efficiently operationalizing our cloud engineering workflows. We also focus on driving the establishment and implementation of Health monitoring and reporting to improve self-healing capabilities. We work towards efficiency and velocity while also exploring new technologies that bring value and help us achieve our goals.
You will work with multiple engineering teams as a technical leader on containerization and other technologies the Operations Engineering team owns. You will lead projects and help develop good communication with our partners while mentoring team members technically and supporting team priorities. You will build greenfield projects, mitigate legacy infrastructure, and participate in on-call rotation. As a leader for your team, you will have the latitude to help teams to meet these sophisticated demands as you see fit, and your support will help teams focus on building great technology by becoming better engineers. You will report to our Director of Operations and Solutions Engineering Leader.
We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join and lead our team.
Your Responsibilities:
- You will help your team build and maintain the container platform (Kubernetes) and declarative & version-controlled application deployments.
- You understand the limitations of the underlying system and have the capability to lead the design/architecture sessions to develop modernized infrastructure.
- You will create projects to analyze existing workflows and code to automate to mitigate manual steps/optimize existing processes.
- We serve the deployment tooling and solutions need of Engineering teams which would be demonstrated by your understanding of the entire infrastructure and automation stack.
- You will develop, lead, and hire a team of DevOps engineers to support production solutions and help address business priorities.
- You will be the primary Automation service provider for Cloud Engineering teams that establish the necessary automation frameworks and engineering standards to ensure consistent quality and execution.
- Within three months, you will lead projects for the team and enable other specialists in automation and DevOps standard methodologies!
- Within one year, you will build roadmaps on accomplishing modernization efforts via cloud automation initiatives!
What it takes to catch our eye:
- You are a domain expert on Kubernetes and CI/CD Pipelines using tools such as GitHub, Artifactory, Jenkins, Docker registry, etc.
- You have proven experience with Python, Ruby, Perl, or Bash, Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS), IaC, CaC tools, AWS, Azure and GCP.
- You like learning new technologies and believe in creating and updating runbooks.
- You enjoy innovating by developing new methods and techniques to solve the problems while optimizing underlying processes
- You enjoy working in an Agile environment and have implemented DevOps principles within your previous team.
- You have experience leading and running a DevOps team that handles run the business and modernization projects.
The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $172,000 - $232,000. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
