We are looking for an Associate City Prosecutor to join our team.

About the Position: 

 

This position will conduct prosecution in court proceedings on behalf of the City, review evidence, pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, and other legal matters pertaining to cases. Work is reviewed by the City Prosecutor or First Assistant City Prosecutor for adequacy of information and manner of presentation.

The ideal candidate will have graduated from an ABA accredited college of law with a JD and must be a member in good standing with the Utah State Bar or be sworn in by the Utah State Bar within one week from the date of hire.

About the Team: 

 

The CPO has 17 prosecutors and 16 staff for a total of 33 personnel.  The office managed by the SLCO DAO under an interlocal agreement.  Pursuant to that, the office is housed in the SLCO DAO office building in downtown SLC.  The office is close to public transport, public library, downtown generally, SLC JC, the SLCO District Court, the Utah Court of Appeals, and the Utah Supreme Court.  The building has secure parking, and is immediately adjacent to a UTA Trax station.  The office is within walking distance to downtown dining, shopping, and entertainment venues. 

 

Work Schedule:  

 

This position typically works Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The office is open 8-5, M-F, closed for most holidays.  The office building is secure and keycard entry to allow for a secure work environment.  Work does occur outside 8-5 standard business hours as needed to meet court caseload demands.

Position Salary: $117,936.00/yr.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Conducts prosecution in court proceedings on behalf of the City, including reviewing evidence, preparation of pleadings and briefs, appearing against accused persons and presenting evidence to courts.
• Conducts investigations to determine if prosecution is warranted. May negotiate settlement of complaints to facilitate their termination and eliminate trial expense.
• Provides office consultation and assistance to citizens involving a wide variety of problems, complaints, grievances, citations and dissatisfactions.
• Consults with and advises Police Department, Fire Department, City Code enforcement personnel, City officials, employees and the general public on matters concerning criminal law.
• Prepares a variety of legal material, including information, warrants, subpoenas, etc., and makes necessary arrangements to have them served.
• Appears before criminal and traffic courts on behalf of the City to arraign and/or try cases.
• Prepares legal material including briefs, memo
