Description

Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Surgery is currently seeking a qualified Board Certified/Board Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join its Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and its growing practice in New Orleans and the greater New Orleans area.

This position is ideal for an early-career surgeon seeking strong operative experience and active participation in a growing cardiac surgery program. Academic rank is Clinical Instructor, with potential for advancement based on performance and institutional criteria.

Key Responsibilities

·        Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive surgical care for cardiac, thoracic, and/or vascular conditions. This includes operating room responsibilities (often 3-4 days/week), rounding on inpatients, and managing outpatients in clinic settings.

·        Education and Teaching: Supervise and teach cardiothoracic fellows, residents, and medical students in both clinical and surgical arenas.

·        Academic Activity: Participate in research, quality improvement projects, scholarly work, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

·        Call Coverage: Participate in regular call schedules, often covering nights and weekends.

·        Service and Administration: Participate in departmental meetings, faculty forums, and, if applicable, regional/national academic conferences. 

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have formal training and experience in:

·       Mitral valve repair and complex valve surgery

·       Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)

·       Mechanical circulatory support, including LVAD implantation

·       ECMO cannulation and perioperative management

·       Collaboration in structural heart procedures (including TAVR)

Qualifications

  • Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Board Eligible or Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Fellowship: Fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Licensure: Ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license in Louisiana
  • Experience: 0-5 years of experience; Early-career surgeons are encouraged to apply
