About the role

The premiere music and arts festival, Life is Beautiful, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Festival Director to lead and oversee all aspects of our annual festival. The Festival Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a successful and memorable event that attracts both local and international audiences. This role requires exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding and passion for the music industry. Note: This is a remote position; however, the candidate must be available for travel for in-person meetings and on-site coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Festival Planning - Develop and execute a comprehensive festival plan, including defining the festival's vision, goals, and target audience. - Coordinate with stakeholders, sponsors, vendors, and artists to ensure smooth implementation of the festival.
  • Budget Management - Develop and manage the festival's budget, including revenue projections, expense tracking, and financial reporting. - Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to optimize resources and maintain financial sustainability.
  • Venue and Production - Secure appropriate venues for the festival and manage all production-related aspects, including stage setups, lighting, sound systems, and technical staff. - Ensure compliance with safety regulations and coordinate with local authorities for necessary permits and licenses.
  • Audience Experience: - Create an engaging and enjoyable experience for festival attendees by overseeing the selection and coordination of food vendors, merchandise booths, and other on-site activities. - Continuously monitor and improve the overall festival experience based on attendee feedback and industry trends.
  • Risk Management: - Prioritize and enhance risk management strategies to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with the festival. - Implement robust contingency plans to address weather-related challenges, security concerns, crowd management, and emergency situations. - Coordinate with relevant authorities and agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees, staff, and artists.
  • Team Leadership: - Build and lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, including department heads responsible for areas such as operations, logistics, and customer service. - Provide clear direction, delegate responsibilities, and foster a collaborative and positive work environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 7+ years experience in organizing and managing large-scale music festivals or similar events
  • Strong network and connections within the music industry, including talent and vendors
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of successfully leading and motivating teams
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Familiarity with event logistics and production processes
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of quality and professionalism
  • Adept in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
  • Extensive experience and expertise in risk management, particularly in large-scale event environments
  • Must be available for occasional travel to in-person meetings and on-site coordination
  • Must be available to work occasional weekend and evenings

Typical wage range: $175k - $225k plus annual bonus. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
