About the role

Description

This position oversees Student Activities by managing campus clubs and organizations, recreation and wellness programming, planning and executing student activities, and assisting with managing student assistants and Engagement Coordinators (ECs). The Assistant Director serves as the professional advisor for the Student Activities Board, SAB. The Assistant Director is responsible for the planning and execution of large-scale campus events including Homecoming Weekend, Spring Fest, and Orientation.  

This is a 12-month, full-time position within Student Success & Engagement. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise the Student Activities Board (SAB) 

  • Provide direct supervision of student workers for the Student Engagement office (Engagement Coordinators)  

  • Oversees the planning and execution of Recreation and Wellness programming for the student body based on the Falcon Framework for Wellness. 

  • Plans and leads on-campus and off-campus events on behalf of Student Engagement 

  • Oversees the training of all club and organization executive board members and orients them to policies and procedures in conjunction with the Finance Office and Student Government Association. 

  • Provides support to the planning and execution of campus traditions events 

  • Oversees the planning and execution of the August Orientation Program  

  • Provides support to the Summer Orientation and Registration program (S.O.A.R.) and January Orientation in conjunction with the Director of Student Engagement 

  • Serves as a representative of the Office of Student Engagement at College-sponsored events 

  • Serve on the First Year Experience Team and other College committees as assigned. 

Qualifications

Education and Training  

  • A Master’s Degree in Student Affairs or related field. 

  • Experience as a professional or Graduate Assistant in Student Affairs  

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; must demonstrate strong commitment to  
    customer service. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. 

  • Ability to interface well with all levels of the organization as well as with students, their parents and others outside the College in a professional and confident manner. 

  • Excellent communication, team building, and interpersonal skills along with a proven capacity for working both independently and collaboratively  

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

  • Nights and weekends are required 

  • Flexible office hours are required to accommodate students’ schedules. 

  • Manual dexterity in order to operate a personal computer, printer and other office equipment. 

  • Able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time to perform essential job functions. 

  • Able to independently travel throughout campus to complete tasks 

  • Able to see and hear to perform all required duties related to the position.
