Job Overview

Provide accounting and reporting support to management through data extraction and analysis. Complete projects to improve business processes consistent with sound accounting practices. Integral in supporting the accounts payable group. Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation for weekly union payroll (approximately 450 employees).

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure accounting transactions are processed timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP.
  • Create comprehensive reports and analyses with Excel, pivot tables, Vlookup, SAP, and knowledge of ERP systems.
  • Develop and complete special projects as assigned by Controller and Accounting Manager. Coordinate with operational staff and accounting staff to accomplish goals.
  • Assist Accounting Manager in researching invoice and payment issues, as well as various accounting duties.
  • Process Invoices and make accruals
  • Provide accounting support as required ensuring effective operations.
  • Preparing weekly payroll for union employee group, which includes data entry, tax updates, direct deposit updates and other miscellaneous payroll entries.
  • Work closely with Union supervisors to ensure accurate timecard entries. 
  • Calculate Union vacation pay based on prior year earnings and track payroll deductions.
  • Analysis of payroll data to ensure error free processing.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting  
  • 1-3 years of related experience    
  • Knowledge of General Accounting Operations
  • Experience processing union payrolls and ability to understand and follow a union contract
  • Strong research, problem-solving, analytical skills.
  • High degree of competency in payroll processing software. Kronos, SAP and/or Ultimate Software is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (advanced) 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to multi-task and willingness to learn new skills
  • Service mentality and driven to work individually and as part of a team to meet or exceed established service level agreements
  • The ability to work effectively in a high growth environment and a rapidly changing organization.
